The Name ‘Grigori’
‘Grigori,’ a plural noun denoting certain fallen angels as described in the books of Enoch. The term appears in chapter 18 of 2 Enoch a total of four times. From these occurrences a connection is drawn to the Watchers of 1 Enoch. One of these such occurrences describes the Grigori as being the disciples of ‘Satanail.’
“These are the Grigori, who with their prince Satanail rejected the Lord of light…” 2 Enoch, 18:3
This initially implies the Grigori are a separate category of Watchers who defied God and joined Satan, however, considering the condemnation of many of the Watchers described in 1 Enoch, it is likely most Watchers are indeed Grigori. And since fallen angels of Satan are considered demons, the Grigori are too demons.
So, not all Watchers are Grigori. In fact, not all Watchers are even fallen. The term Grigori can be seen as a distinct term to define the fallen Watchers. The etymology of both ‘Grigori’ and ‘Watcher’ comes from the same root meaning ‘wakeful,’ therefore a separation of the terms is merely for definitive and exegetical purposes rather than one of inherent meaning.
The fallen Watchers, or Grigori as now defined, were said in 1 Enoch to have broken their god-given rules as Eve had once done in Eden. They had lusted for human women who bore nephalim children and taught forbidden sinful knowledge to men and women alike.
The angels who commited these ‘atrocities’ were punished barbarically. Just as Prometheus was by Zeus. And this, according to 1 Enoch, is why the Earth was flooded.
The Grigori are cast in a dark light. They are the cause of the great flood and the creators of a monstrous race. Yet, the knowledge they were supposed to have taught humanity was all beneficial. Why should beneficial knowledge be forbidden? Supposedly an all-male race, they lusted for women because they have no women amongst themselves to lust for. This is why they were cast down as demons, just as man was punished when Eve ate the fruit from the tree of knowledge.
God is the punisher. He creates situations which lure his subjects into sin. Though the Books of Enoch are widely considered to be non-canonical, there are other instances of this truth in canonical texts.
The Grigori stand again to spread their knowledge and rectify the false truths spread over centuries of deceptive texts and preaching. Whether you believe in angels or not, there are yet many lessons to be learned and much knowledge to be discovered.
We are The Grigori,
Hear our truth.
